Man struck down at Mc Doom succumbs

A SENIOR, who was employed by the Ministry of Natural Resources, died on Wednesday after a car driven by a policeman crashed into him while he was crossing the road at Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Monday.

Dead is Colin Crawford, 61, of Covent Garden EBD. He succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
A post-mortem done on Friday revealed that he died as a result of multiple injuries to the body.

Reports indicate that on Monday, the three lane arrangement was active on the roadway when the driver of PLL 9532 was proceeding south along the eastern side of the western carriageway. The car then crashed into Crawford when he jumped over the median and tried to cross the roadway.

Crawford fell onto the front windscreen of the car and landed on the road way. He sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body and he was picked up by the policeman who was driving the car. Assistance of public spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Police conducted a breathalyser test on the driver and found no trace of alcohol in his system. The driver is expected to be charged in the new week.
