Mocha man jailed for break and enter and larceny

COMPTON Fernandes, a 47-year-old Mocha-Arcadia, East Bank Demerara resident was on Wednesday sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for the offence of break and enter and larceny.

Fernandes reappeared before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, after spending the last month on remand.

Fernandes was jointly charged with Latchman Sukhan last month for the offence and they were remanded to prison. When he re-appeared in court on Wednesday, Fernandes opted to plead guilty in order to save the court’s time.

The man admitted that between May 20,2019 and May 21,2019 at Albouystown, he broke and entered the shop of Shanelle Prince and stole two gas bottles along with a Samsung music set, the total value of the items being $113,000.

Fernandes’s accomplice Sukhan nevertheless maintained his not-guilty plea and was further remanded to prison until July 3,2019.
