THE West Coast Warriors registered a 10-wicket win against Madras Cricket Club to remain undefeated in the New York-based 30-over Commonwealth Cricket League.
With their latest victory on Sunday, the Guyanese team (made up of both local and overseas-based Guyanese) are now comfortably atop the points table in the 26-team competition, with 10 points (five wins in five matches).
Madras CC won the toss at the Whitestone Ferry Park in the Bronx and opted to take first strike in a game reduced to 20 overs due to bad weather.
Led by leg-spinner Chanderpaul Persaud, the Warriors were able to restrict their opponents to 113-9 in their allotted overs. Persaud finished with 4-14. Denish Singh, with 29, registered the highest score for Madras CC.
In reply, Zeeburg Sports Club cricketer Balbinder Shivpersaud blasted his way to an unbeaten half-century to lift the Warriors to victory in 13.3 overs. Shivpersaud finished on 56 not out, while fellow opener Rajendra Khan was equally impressive with an unbeaten score of 40.
