Dear Editor
We are so pleased to learn that our eastern neighbour – the Dutch-speaking South American country of Suriname – says it stands ready to share its knowledge in oil and gas with us, its English-speaking neighbour – Guyana, where preparations for oil production is underway.
This benign gesture, we learnt, was made by newly-accredited Suriname Ambassador to Guyana, Ebu Jones, when he presented his letter of credence to Guyana’s President, David Granger, on Wednesday in Georgetown. Ambassador Jones we learnt also, offered Suriname’s 40 years of experience in oil and gas knowledge-sharing to us, in Guyana.
The Republic of Suriname, with forty years of experience in the oil and gas industry, is willing to share this knowledge with the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and, if necessary, to support the further development thereof. We are also pleased that President Granger indicated that Guyana looks forward to working with Suriname on wide-ranging areas of cooperation including oil and gas production.
This gesture of our eastern neighbour augurs well for good neighbourly relations and maybe far better than what the United Nations body had long laboured for.
