THE lifeless body of 39-year-old Zoreena Ramalla, a housewife of Adelphi Village, East Canje, Berbice, was discovered suspended from the rafters of her modest two-storey wooden home just after 15:00hrs on Wednesday.
The discovery was made by her common-law husband, Ameer Nandkumar, aged 29, a labourer.
According to him, Zoreena had two great loves: Rum and drugs, and this was the cause of many of their arguments.
He said that as had by now become a habit with them, they had an argument just that morning at around 08:00hrs, which caused him to leave the house and head over to his mothers’s at Rose Hall, another East Canje location.
He said that on his return to their place at around 5:00hrs, he found Zoreena on the upper floor hanging from the roof in the hall, a white canvas rope tied around her neck.
All she had on, he said, was a red-and-black jersey, and a blue long pants.
On finding her, he immediately called in the police, whereupon ranks from the Reliance Police Station were sent to the scene.
Reports are that apart from the rope burns around her neck, there were no other marks on her body as to suggest foul play.
The body was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where her death was confirmed.
A post mortem examination will be conducted shortly, as investigations continue.
