THE International Road Federation (IRF), on Wednesday, honoured the late Terence Fletcher, who was a local engineer who worked to bolster infrastructure in Guyana and the Caribbean.

Fletcher was born in Guyana and was a student of Queen’s College. He later migrated to pursue studies abroad, before returning to work in his country of birth. On Wednesday, as the Eight International Road Federation (IRF) Caribbean Congress was declared open, the Guyanese man was honoured.

“Upon graduating, he embarked on a professional career spanning 50 years – continuing literally to the day of his passing,” Board Member of the IRF, Dr. Kamil Kaloush, said. “Throughout, he maintained strong connections with the IRF and was in fact, one of the professionals who inspired us to launch a cycle of regional congresses for the Caribbean.” At the opening of the congress, he was bestowed with the IRF Lifetime Achievement award, “in recognition of his unwavering commitment and effective contribution to the propensity and socioeconomic development of the Caribbean.”

Terence’s daughter, Carol, received the award in his memory at the opening of the congress.

“I just want to thank the IRF for recognising my dad,” Carol said. “My entire lifetime, he has always been passionate about the work he has done… I feel very grateful for the recognition he received today.”
