A 30-year-old Nigerian man was on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, remanded to prison at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court by Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan for allegedly entering Guyana without presenting himself to an immigration officer.
ANTHONY Ogbonna Eze pleaded not guilty to the charge, which read that between June 1, 2018 and June 30, 2018 at Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice, he entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.
The prosecution is contending that during the period he failed to present himself to an immigration officer, after he had reportedly arrived at Lethem from Brazil. It was established that he was in Lethem for the period working as a miner.
The magistrate eventually remanded the defendant to prison until his next court appearance on May 13, 2019.
