–DCC make in two in a row, Everest also win

MUSLIM Youth Organisation (MYO) bounced back from an opening loss to the Demerara Cricket Club on Saturday to beat the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) on Sunday at home in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Toucan U-15  100-over cricket competition.

DCC and Everest also claimed victories when they battled GCC and Transport Sports Club, respectively.

At the MYO ground, the home team won the toss and opted to take first strike. Three of their batsmen raced to half centuries, which catapulted their score to 367-7 off 50 overs (reduced).

Opener Zeynul Ramsammy struck nine fours and a six in a score of 65. For the opening wicket, he and D. Sobai (25), put together 62, while for the second wicket, Ramsammy and Avinash Rampersaud added 70 runs.

The latter was extremely aggressive as he belted 12 fours and two sixes in a top score of 68.

Several other batsmen had starts, but it was S. Algoo who exploded towards the end for a quick half- century. Batting at number seven, Algoo struck three fours and six sixes in a score of 51.

  1. Hutton finished with three wickets for the visitors, who were skittled out for 100 in 28 overs when they batted.

Left arm spinner Bhaskar Dhani led the attack for the home side with 5-11 from 6.5 overs.

At the DCC ground, the home team earned a one-wicket win over GCC.

GCC won the toss and batted first and although Mavindra Dindyal struck a game-high 67, they could only muster 134 before they were bowled out in 32.3 overs.

Dindyal, who finished with the most runs and MVP trophy at the Regional Under-15 Super50 Cup earlier this month in Antigua, struck 11 fours in his innings.

Middle-order batsman Joash Charles added 25, but the rest of the team faltered. Young off- spinner, Jayden Dowlin, the son of former West Indies cricketer, Travis Dowlin, damaged the middle order to finish with 4-13, while Romeo Deonarain supported with 3-24 and Koreem Caesar 2-15.

Led by skipper Shaquan Walters, the hosts were able to tame the bowling attack of GCC, which was led by Dindyal and Charles, to reach their target with one wicket in hand.

Walters scored 40, while Jayden Campbell added 20.

Dindyal finished with 3-28 and Charles 3-24.

At the Everest ground.  The home team batted first and scored 115-9 in 55 overs. Prashad led the way with 33 runs.  Nine-year-old medium pacer Reaz Latif finished with 3-17 for TSC.

In reply, Transport were bundled out for 60. Riyad Latif (Reaz’s older brother) finished with 11.  Bowling for Everest, V. Persaud and N. Muthura finished with two wickets each.
