THE Pan-American U-23 Elite Road Race Cycling Championships will pedal off in Mexico on Wednesday (May 1) and Guyana will be represented by the trio of Jamual John, Romello Crawford and Briton John.

The trio has been in Mexico since April 19 in order to get adequate acclimatisation. The trio is expected to be joined by GCF president, Horace Burrowes, despite mandatory federation elections being almost a month over the March 31 deadline.

John will be the first to get into action on Wednesday in the Time Trials which will be 33km (3 laps) on the Circuit Río de la Avenidas.

Romello Crawford

Jamual John is the only rider that will compete in the Time Trials. Meanwhile, Briton John and Romello Crawford will contest the U-23 Individual Road Race on Saturday (May 4). That race is set to be a distance of 132.3km (9 laps) around the Circuit Ciudad del Conocimiento, Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo.

Should any of the Guyanese cyclists manage to finish in the top 10 in the road race, they will be eligible to compete at the World Championships set for September in London.

The Elite-Sub 23 Pan-American Road Championship is a collaboration among the Government of Mexico, the State of Hidalgo, the State Cycling Association and the Mexican Cycling Federation, with the Pan-American Cycling Confederation playing a pivotal role.
