IN what was truly a cycling classic in the ancient county of Berbice, PSL Trojan cyclist, Curtis Dey, dethroned last year’s winner, Balram Narine, to lift this year’s edition of the New Amsterdam Mayor’s 10-lap cycling meet.

In the 10-lap racing event at New Amsterdam on Sunday, cycling enthusiasts and fans braved the brilliant sunshine and were treated to some enthralling action as Dey outsprinted Narine at the death to cop top honours on the day.

Ralph Seenarine settled for third, while Mario Washington came in fourth and Kevin Ross fifth.

Washington won the Juvenile category, while Jerimiah Joseph and Steve Bhimsingh finished in second and third positions respectively.

The U-14 category was won by Aaron Rajnarine, with Whitney Poyer being the lone female in the race while the lone veteran was Syborne Fernandes; they both received a special prize for taking part.

In the feature 10-lap event, Seenarine grabbed three ‘prime’ prizes while Narine pedalled away with two and Dey had one.
