…young man arrested, father being sought
DETECTIVES are hunting a man after they conducted a search at his home and found a quantity of ammunition and a firearm for which they believe he does not have a licence to carry.
As a consequence of the search, the police have since arrested the man’s 20-year-old son who was at home at the time of the search and who directed them to his father’s room where one live round was found. The other live rounds, along with the firearm, were said to be found in a compartment in a truck which was parked in front of the family’s home, according to police sources.
This newspaper heard that the police were on an earlier operation and visited the location after they received information that the man, who owns the house, was in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Arrested in the second operation was 20-year-old Tiree Barry, a labourer who resides at lot 832 Dazzell Housing Scheme, Paradise, East Coast Demerara with his father. The young man was at home alone when the police arrived at the location to carry out their search.
They reportedly requested the whereabouts of his father and they were told that the man was not around. However, detectives were allowed to enter the house after they requested permission from the young man.
They also asked to be shown the father’s room and that was done. One live round was found in a chest of drawer.
“A further search was conducted on truck, GWW 1304, which is said to be the property of the young man’s father. It was during that search that the detectives discovered, concealed in a compartment of the truck behind the driver’s seat, one .45 Smith and Wesson Sig Sauer P250 Pistol with its serial number intact,” one police source indicated to this publication.
The 20-year-old was placed into custody while the police are said to be hunting the father.
