THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) recently honoured Guyana’s Under-15 opening batsman Rampertab Ramnauth for his outstanding performance at the recent Cricket West Indies (CWI) Under-15 tournament held in Antigua.
The board, with the support of the 10 cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and Vickram Seubarran, president of the Port Mourant Cricket Club, presented Ramnauth with a trophy, a framed certificate, a cricket medal and a financial gift.
“You have made us proud with your outstanding performance for Guyana and have proved beyond any doubt that the Ancient County still produces outstanding cricketers to follow in the legacy of Rohan Kanhai, Basil Butcher, Joe Solomon, Roy Fredericks and Alvin Kallicharran. Your performance, along with Isaiah Thorne’s, put to rest the false claim by a few that cricket in Berbice is a farce,” BCB president Hilbert Foster said.
Foster urged the promising batsman to use his recent performance as a stepping-stone to a successful career. The BCB would continue to invest in every one of its players, while making sure that everyone has enough matches to play at every level.
Berbice, he stated, has legendary status in the cricketing world and his administration is working hard to uphold the high standard. Ramnauth, in an invited comment, said that he was proud of his achievements. He acknowledged the contribution of the Port Mourant Cricket Club and persons like Seubarran, his coach Leslie Solomon and his parents in the development of his career.
Meanwhile, the BCB president and his executives took the opportunity to meet with representatives of first and second division teams in Berbice to discuss some major upcoming cricket tournaments.
