THE teaching fraternity in Berbice was plunged into a state of shock at the death of Joel Wills, 27, a teacher attached to the Canje Secondary School, on Saturday evening.

According to information reaching Guyana Chronicle, Wills died in a hit-and-run accident around 20:00 hrs. He was at the time returning to his Rosignol, West Coast Berbice home from the Albion Community Centre on his motorcycle when he collided with a motor lorry on the Number One Public Road, East Berbice, Corentyne

Public-spirited citizens picked him up and rushed him to the New Amsterdam Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the truck allegedly fled the scene. Wills suffered severe head injuries in the accident. Police have launched a search for the diver of the motor lorry.
