THE police are investigating an accident which occurred along the Canal No 2 Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD), and which claimed the life of 47-year-old motorist Neil Nunes and left his pillion rider hospitalised
Police enquiries disclosed that on Monday, April 8, 2019 around 18:45hrs, there was an accident involving motorcar PVV1097, driven by a 30 year-old resident of Belle West Canal No 2, West Bank Demerara (WBD) and motorcycle CJ 8132; the motorcycle was being ridden by Nunes with Nichola Garnette, 35, his pillion rider.

According to reports, the motor car was being driven west along the southern carriageway of the Canal No 2 Public Road, when the driver lost control resulting in the vehicle colliding with motor cycle CJ 8132, which was proceeding in the opposite direction.
Both Nunes and Garnette sustained multiple injuries about their bodies and were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Nunes succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, around 02:00hrs, while Garnette’s condition is listed as stable.
Nunes body is presently at the GPHC mortuary awaiting a post-mortem. The driver of the car passed a breathalyser test and is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
