THE second edition of the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield began yesterday with Guyana’s Fruta Conquerors taking on Scholars International Sports Club of Cayman Islands, in the opening match at the Ergilio Hato Stadium in Curacao.
Their Group ‘A’ clash was the first of three matches scheduled for the same venue, while the other two matches to complete the day’s quota were to be run simultaneously at the Dr Antoine Maduro Stadium.
Unfortunately, Fruta Conquerors were defeated 2-1 by Scholars International.
Tomorrow, Fruta Conquerors take on Curacao’s Jong Holland at the same venue, which is home to Jong Holland. The match is scheduled to kick off at 20:00hrs.

Two days later, April 9, Conquerors are fixed to battle the Cubans, Santiago de Cuba, from 17:30hrs at the Dr Antoine Maduro Stadium.
If Conquerors are successful and manage to find a way out of Group A, the quarterfinals are set for April 11 with the semifinals and final billed for April 13 and 15, respectively.
The winners of the Caribbean Shield, will have the opportunity to face the fourth-place finishers of the 2019 Flow CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship in a playoff match to determine the fourth Caribbean representative in the 2019 Scotiabank CONCACAF League.
