Mahaicony man electrocuted

EZEKIEL Halley called ‘Andel’ of Lot 1 Airy Hall, Mahaicony, was on Tuesday evening electrocuted while allegedly stealing electricity.

According to reports, the man was allegedly in the habit of stealing electricity and on Monday the plug was pulled. The young man, who works as a labourer, was at the time attempting to hook up the connection to a utility pole in the area sometime around 20:00hrs, after which he would have run the wire to his home. Two women, who reside at the home where the illegal connection was to be made, told detectives that Ezekiel was discovered motionless lying on the side of a trench on his back.

He was, at the time, clad in a multi-coloured vest and a pair of black short pants. The police who visited the scene discovered that at the time of the discovery of the body, the young man was still clutching to a piece of wire and he also had a burn to the palm of his hands which seems consistent with an electrical burn. The body was escorted to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Just last week, a Berbician was killed due to an electric shock he received while doing line clearing for a contracting company sub- contracted by the Guyana Power and Light Inc. The company for which the young man worked indicated that he was wearing all his safety gear at the time of the incident.
