THE Portuguese class at the North Georgetown Secondary School (NGSS) decided to ‘switch up’ the delivery of the subject by hosting their first ever Portuguese Pageant at the school.

The pageant was held on March 19 in the auditorium of the school and was organised by the school’s Portuguese teacher, Maquita De Souza.

As explained by language teacher, Alisa Holmes, the pageant was organised in three parts: the Introduction, the Question and Answer Segment – where students were quizzed on school topics done for the term in Portuguese and the dress segment.

Twelve students from Grades Seven and Eight (Forms One and Two) participated. Mr. and Mrs. Portuguese were awarded to Owen Netton and Rihanna Richards (Grade Seven) and Alexander Dors and Keshia Hodge (Grade Eigh).

Belton and Richards, while the prize for the best speaker was awarded to Richard Bennet (Grade Eight). The Chief Judge was Brazilian Language Institute’s, Doraci Porter; Spanish teacher from the Bishop’s High, Malika Payne; and President’s College language teacher, Anurama Ramgobin.
