Businessman among two remanded for stealing gun, ammo

BRENTON “Banko” Charles, a 31-year-old businessman and Quacy Sealey appeared Friday before Principal Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates Court, charged with theft.

Both Charles and Sealey pleaded not guilty to the charge which read that on March 24, 2019, in the vicinity of Brickdam, Georgetown, they stole a .32 pistol and 14 rounds of ammunition, the property of Michael Jardine. These items amounted to $270, 380.

According to Prosecutor Sanj Singh, on the day in question, Jardine secured his car and left to run an errand. Upon his return, he noticed that the items were missing; a report was made at the Brickdam Police Station and the defendants were subsequently apprehended.
The prosecutor objected to bail due to the nature of the offence and the fact that the items were not recovered. He also told the court that there is a possibility that they would not return to court.

Both defendants have other matters pending: Charles was on January 22, 2019, charged with attempted murder at the Kumaka Market, while Semple was previously charged with unlawful wounding.
They were remanded to prison until their next appearance on April 12, 2019.
