TOSHAO of Mainstay/Whyaka, Region Two, Milton Federicks said jaguars are a nuisance as they frequently devour livestock and poultry in the community.
His comments came Wednesday after several dogs killed one of the dangerous big cats on Tuesday morning.

According to the toshao, he was told by residents that dogs in the village killed a jaguar measuring seven feet in length and weighing about 200 pounds.
The toshoa said he was amazed by the news.

“What I know is that it’s two of the jaguars, they usually come in pairs, we don’t kill them… we set traps and then we inform EPA,” Federicks said.

He further explained that in the morning, he would see prints of jaguar paws around his poultry pens. He also said dogs, sheep and goats were killed in the past by the jaguars. The toshao was concerned about the safety of the residents.

Residents were told at several wildlife workshops not to kill the jaguars but to make traps for them instead.
