THE High Court trial into the murder of Orrett West, who was stabbed and killed in 2016, during a fight at the Plaisance Line Top, East Coast Demerara (ECD) is expected to commence soon
The matter is expected to be presided over by Justice Navindra Singh and a date is yet to be set.
Kevin Garraway, 23, formally of Calendar Street, Albouystown is on remand for the capital offence.
The indictment alleged that, on June 3, 2016, at Plaisance Railway Embankment, ECD, he murdered 28-year-old Orrett West of Guyhoc Park.
According to reports, on the day in question, at about 00:30hrs, Garraway had a misunderstanding with West’s girlfriend.
It is alleged that the girlfriend had walked up to the accused and asked “if he wanted a problem.”
A confrontation ensued, and West reportedly pushed Garraway, which resulted in the two men scuffling.
Garraway then stabbed West, about the body, with a knife, and West was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post-mortem performed on West revealed that he died of shock and haemorrhage due to stab wounds to his neck.
