A 44-year-old man was on Friday sentenced to three years in prison and fined $30,000 when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a charge of possession of narcotics.
It was alleged that on March 6, at Kettley Street, Charlestown, Robert Bhagnauth had in his possession 12 grams of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him. According to the facts presented by the police, on the day in question Bhagnauth was acting in a suspicious manner when police approached him and conducted a search on his person.
During the search it was revealed that he had a quantity of stems, leaves and seeds in a black plastic bag suspected to be cannabis. He was later arrested and charged.
