A 54-year-old Dominican Republic citizen was on Thursday, February 21, 2019, remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for uttering a forged Peruvian passport to a local immigration officer at Moleson Creek, Berbice.
Jose Rodriquez pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on February 19, 2019, at Moleson Creek, Corentyne, Berbice, with intent to defraud, he uttered a Republic of Dominica passport to an Immigration officer, purporting to show that same was issued by the Peru Immigration Services.
With the aid of an interpreter, Rodriquez told the court that he was a businessman and came to Guyana to do some shopping.
Police Prosecutor Annalisa Brummell objected to bail being granted to Rodriquez on the grounds that the defendant had no ties to Guyana and posed a flight risk.
The Chief Magistrate remanded Rodriquez to prison until February 26, 2019.
