CARIBBEAN middleweight boxing champion `Dynamite’ Desmond Amsterdam is waiting to spring a surprise on silver medalist Arthur Langelier when the two gladiators clash in the feature bout of the Patrick Ford Memorial Championship on Sunday at the National Gymnasium.
“Langelier is a good fighter but he will be up against a better Amsterdam this time around. I have been putting in my rounds in the gym and come February 17th, it will be a classic display,” Amsterdam declared yesterday.
The two top Caribbean middleweights first met on December 9 last in the final of the Caribbean Championship. Amsterdam had steamrolled his two previous opponents, but Langelier turned out to be a tough opponent.

The Lanky St. Lucian was staggered twice in the early rounds but rallied back to hand Amsterdam his first standing eight count of the tournament. However, at the end of the bruising affair, the Guyanese was the clear victor.
“I know he will be coming back with blood in his eyes, but I hope his tank is full because I am out to put on a better show than in December,” the Caribbean Middleweight king said. The middleweight clash will be one of 15 on the card being held in honour of Ford, the first Guyanese to fight for a world title.
Also expected to be featured are Caribbean bantamweight champion, Keevin Allicock and the region’s lightweight champion, Jamal Eastman. Sisters Alesha and Abiola Jackman are also listed as participants as Guyana battle Suriname, St Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago. The competition is organised by the Guyana Boxing Association and Alford McDonald.
Tickets are $1,000 for stands and $2,000 for ring side.
