PPP says concerned about developments at School of the Nations

Dear Editor
THE People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is concerned about the horrific developments affecting the School of the Nations and urges the coalition government to stop treating this matter in a ‘business as usual’ manner and take a more aggressive lead in addressing the situation. The safety of our children in schools must be of paramount importance. This situation could have serious consequences for both the children at the school and the country at large.

The party also expresses its sincerest condolences to the families of six-year-old, Corwin Edwards, six-year-old, Sherezer Mendonca; and three-year-old, Roshini Seegobin. The party notes that the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has indicated that it is investigating the circumstances of the deaths and is also conducting an assessment of the medication administered to the children. The party joins the call for an external investigation to also be done. Parents have certain expectations when they place their children in the care of health care institutions and they deserve answers.

The PPP expresses too its condolences to the family and friends of Vanica Schultz, 15, who passed away under tragic circumstances. The incident underscores the need for greater vigilance so that support mechanisms can be in place and be accessible at times when our children are faced with difficult choices.
