Singh leads McGill into WDCA President Cup final

… Rain ruins Zeeburg, Independence clash

THE McGill Super Star Sports Club are into the final of the West Demerara Cricket Association President Cup after an unbeaten aggressive half-century from Prahalad Singh in their semi-final battle against the Cornelia Ida Cricket Club (CICC) on Sunday at the Canal Number 2 ground.

McGill will have to wait on a rematch or a board decision between the Zeeburg Sports Club and Independence Cricket Club (CICC) after that game at the Joe Vieira Park finished as a no-result because of rain.
At the Canal Number Two ground, CICC won the toss and batted first in a reduced fixture. Led by senior national cricket Akshaya Persaud and D. Azmudeen, CICC were able to reach 211-5 in 38 overs.

Persaud spanked six fours and four sixes in an unbeaten score of 98, while Azmudeen also belted four sixes to go with three fours in a score of 53.
Azar Deen led the bowling for the eventual winners with 2-43.
McGill, in reply, had reached 49-3 from 12 overs before the game was further revised and they were asked to score 154 for victory from 27 overs.

Singh led the attack as he blasted seven sixes to score an unbeaten 70 runs from 33 balls to lead McGill to 157-8 in 26.4 overs.

Daniel Basdeo supported with 20 (2×6), while Travis Persaud added 12.
Akshaya Persaud with his left-arm spin led CICC’s bowling attack with 3-21 from 6.4 overs, while off-spinner Richie Looknauth supported with 2-12 from six overs.

RAIN DECIDES
In the other clash, another reduced fixture (45 overs), Independence won the toss, but were bowled out in 33 overs for 188. Vivian Beckles led the attack with 54, while J. Hector and S. Bissesar supported with 32 and 30 runs respectively.

Malcolm Hubbard finished with 5-46 from nine overs with his off-spin bowling, while Yutesh Dhanpaul supported with 2-30 from eight overs.

Zeeburg, in reply, were asked to score 126 in 30 overs in a revised total, but they only managed to reach 77-5 in 11 overs before rain stopped play without a result. Hubbard scored 21, while C. Jaisingh added 27 and Dhanpaul was 23 not out.
The final of the competition was originally set for January 27.
