PRINCIPAL Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus on Friday remanded a 45-year-old Charlestown resident for trafficking in Guy$5.1M worth of cannabis.
Seon Bartholomew pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on January 9, 2019, at Lot 35 Lyng Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, he had 10,387 grams of cannabis in his possession, for the purpose of trafficking.
Bartholomew’s attorney Damien Da Silva told the court during an application for bail that on the day in question, the ‘suspicious package’ with the narcotics was found under a staircase of the upper flat of the two -storey house where his client lived.
DaSliva argued that several other persons, including his client, lived in the house, the compound of which was not fenced and thus accessible to everyone.
However, Police Prosecutor Adoni Innis contended that when ranks went to the location referred to, Bartholomew and two others were contacted. He further stated that Bartholomew told the ranks that the two persons were visitors while the drugs belonged to him.
The prosecutor objected to Bartholomew being released on bail on the grounds of the seriousness and prevalence of the charges. Bail was denied and the next hearing was fixed for January 22, 2019.
