THE Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) and the Running Brave Athletic Club (RBAC) chalked up two wins each on Sunday to commence the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) calendar of activities for its 2018-2019 athletic season.
The meet, which was held at the National Park, had athletes from six clubs participating in various categories (youth, junior and senior) with a special event held for runners 12-14 years old.
CWSS dominated the Young Boys and Young Girls’ three km races. Murphy Nash got past Cordel Charles (Super Upcoming Runners) and Calvin Williams (New Amsterdam United) in the Boys’ race, while his schoolmate Sheama Tyrell finished ahead of Aayliah Headley (De Challengers Athletics Club) and Tia Azore (CWSS) respectively in the female division.
Running Brave were outstanding in the 12-14 year-old Girls’ two km race, with Adriel Austin and Atoya Harvey finishing 1-2, while Charissa December from DCAC placed third.
Running Brave had another 1-2 finish when their junior boys competed over six km. Daniel Harvey finished ahead of his teammate Daniel McCarter with Murphy Bagot (NAU) placing third.
The De Challengers Athletics Club also registered a 1-2 finish when they competed in the 12-14 year-old Boys’ 2km race. Jonathan Seedath got past teammate Seon Booker with Trimmel Bishop (RBAC) placing third.
The Police Progressive Youth Club dominated the senior men’s race over 8km with Anfernee Headecker finishing ahead of club mate Royston Fordyce. Super Upcoming Runners (SUR) athlete Francis King placed third.
Meanwhile, the SUR athletes excelled in the four km race with Shemar Alleyne winning ahead of teammate Emanuel Paul.
The AAG will now travel to the Bayrock Community Centre ground in Linden and to the Esplanade ground in New Amsterdam, Berbice for the next two cross-country events this Sunday (December 30) from 15:00hrs.
