HISTORY was created on Saturday evening when Trinidad and Tobago’s Shiva boys’ Hindu College won the inaugural KFC Goodwill Cup.

Shiva Boys’ (Yellow) found it difficult to break through the Christiansburg/Wismar Secondary School defence.

The Trinidad side edged Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) 2-1 to clinch the tournament with a perfect record after three rounds of play at the Ministry of Education (MoE) ground on Carifesta Avenue.

This tournament, the first of its kind in Guyana in recent years, was the brainchild of the Petra Organistion (football promotions company) and it saw Guyoil/Tradewind Tankers league champions Annandale Secondary, along with CWSS and region nine’s Annai Secondary locked in a four-way round-robin battle with T&T’s 2016 league champions, Shiva Boys’, for the KFC Cup.

Heading into Saturday night’s play, Annai had a chance at the title but they needed to beat Annandale by at least two goals and hope CWSS could have found their swagger to defeat the T&T school team in the night’s feature game.

The second placed Annai team.

The first part of the mission was completed when Annai thrashed Annandale 6-0 in the opening contest with the first two strikes being own goals while Niazz Mohammed (the tournament leading goal scorer) added a brace in the  28th and 55th minutes before Junior Rodriques (68th) and Naidison Daniels (80th) padded the final score.

In the final game of the event, Stevon Thomas found the back of the net in the 31st minute to ensure that CWSS would’ve had to score at least two goals to see them lose their grip on the title and 15 minutes into the second half, Tyrese Lewis equalised for the lads from the ‘mining town’. Nine minutes from stoppage time, the game could’ve gone in any direct after being deadlocked for 21 minutes, but Shiva Boys’ Gesiah Bishop put all doubts to rest when he banged in the winning goal for the visitors.

The event which kicked off on the 15th of this month, saw Shiva Boys’ College beating Annai 3-0 in the opening round before squeezing past East Coast’s Annandale and Linden’s CWSS 2-1.

Reigning school league champions, Annandale, finished the tournament in a disappointing last place after failing to win any of their three matches while South Rupununi will be proud of Annai after they finished second, while CWSS placed third after picking up two points from an extra-time win against Annandale.
