MOHAMED’S Enterprise, through its proprietor Nazar Mohamed, yesterday, became the latest corporate entity to support the December 27–30 GFF/ExxonMobil International Futsal tournament, which will be played at Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Mohamed’s Enterprise handed over trophies and replicas along with an undisclosed sum to the organisers, the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation and the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).

The tournament, a first in Guyana, will see Trinidad and Tobago’s Morvant Caledonia United headline the list of teams from overseas. ZV All-Stars from Suriname and a Brazilian side from the state of Sau Paulo will also participate.

While in Guyana, the teams will collide with a Guyana Select side, along with a team from Linden, East Bank Demerara, East Coast Demerara and West Demerara football associations.

Mohamed, a long-time supporter of Kashif and Shanghai Organisation – a Medal of Service awardee – stated, “We’re always happy to support Kashif and Shanghai. We have been (doing so) over 30 years or longer and we’re always happy for that.”

Dion Inniss, a member of the Wayne Forde-led Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Executive Committee, pointed out that Mohamed’s support to the sport of football has been impressive, calling him a “very reliable and consistent partner of football and we’re receiving this donation of trophies and a monetary injection towards the tournament; but I think what is really being demonstrated is that you’re (Mohamed’s) are investing in the youths of Guyana to ensure that they stay out of trouble and have something productive to do.”

“I mean, the chances of them becoming professional footballers are very slim, but what you’re doing is ensuring that they channel their energies in a very productive way. We’re thankful for that,” Innis said.

The winning team will pocket $1.2M, while second- through fourth-place will go home with $600 000, $300 000 and $100 000 respectively.
