– over robbery at knife-point charge
SENIOR Magistrate Faith McGusty, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday, remanded a 24-year-old to prison for allegedly robbing a miner at knife-point.
Tajnaught Ramkissoon, of Grove, East Bank Demerara, on December 15, 2018 at Jimbo Bridge, in his neighbourhood, is alleged to have robbed Ramesh Seunarine of a cell-phone valued $32,000 and $57,000 in cash while being armed with a knife.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Ceon Blackman opposed to Ramkissoon being granted pre-trial liberty on the grounds that a weapon was used in the commission of the crime.
According to the facts presented in court, on the day in question, Ramkissoon, after helping Seunarine with directions, asked him for $200.
It was while Seunarine was reaching into his pocket for the money that Ramkissoon reportedly pulled out a knife and, placing it at the victim’s head, relieved him of the articles mentioned in the charge.
Blackman said that Ramkissoon was positively identified by the victim during an identification parade.
Ramkissoon was remanded until January 7, 2019, and the matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrates’ Court.
