Albion, RHTGG, Tucber Park and YWCC claim victories

THE Rose Hall Town (RHT) Gizmos and Gadgets, Albion, the Young Warriors Cricket Club (YWCC) and Tucber Park registered first round victories in the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC)/Busta Champion of Champions 40-over first-division tournament last Sunday.

Four venues were used for the opening round of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) competition – the 28th of the year.
At the Bush Lot ground, Albion defeated West Berbice by seven wickets. West Berbice batted first and reached 112 before they were bowled out in 20 overs. David Latchaya led the attack with 4-39, while Kevin Umroa supported with 3-19. Keith Fraser (34) and Rennison Mitchell (21) were the only resistance for West Berbice.

In reply, Albion, led by solid batting from Kandasammy Surujnarine (47) and Sharaz Ramcharran (43), reached 113-3 in 19 overs.
RHT Gizmos and Gadgets also registered an easy win, which stemmed from an all-round effort from Kevin Sinclair. He, Shawn Pereira, and Junior Sinclair picked up three wickets each to restrict Rose Hall Canje for 90 in 22 overs.
Kevin Sinclair then stroked 40 and Eon Hooper an unbeaten 35 to lead RHT to 92-2 off 21.4 overs.

Meanwhile,,Tucber Park claimed a four-wicket victory when they battled against Blairmont.
Batting first, Blairmont reached 141 in 37 overs. They were led by Kevin Jawahir (47), Marvon Prashad (27) and Javed Karim (26). Devon Clements and Nial Smith did the damage with the ball for the eventual winners with 4-26 and 3-18 respectively.

Garfield Benjamin (39), Clinton Lindee (36) and Steve Deonarine (22) then led Tucber Park to 142-6 off 30 overs. Shabeer Baksh and Seon Glasgow picked up two wickets each for Blairmont.

Young Warriors CC were the only team that recorded a victory batting first. They raced to 225-8 in 36 overs with Ricardo Ramdehol 44, Mortimer Fraser 39, Alex Algoo and Suresh Dhanai 25 leading the charge. Lloydel Lewis led Port Mourant’s bowling attack with 4-53.
In reply, Port Mourant could muster only 130 runs in 33.2 overs as Ishwar Singh (3-12) and Jermaine Henry (2-30) did the damage.

Daniel Samaroo (26) Dorasammy Mahadeo (18) and Trishan Ramcharran (15) were the main scorers for the defeated side.
