A WOMAN died on Saturday evening when she was struck by a truck on the Bagotstown Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Dead is Shondell Sparrock , 45, a clerical worker of Peter’s Hall East Bank Demerara. Reports indicate that the motor lorry, GMM 1121, was proceeding east along the northern side of the Demerara Harbour Bridge access road and was negotiating a left turn onto the Bagotstown Public Road while the pedestrian was crossing the road.

This resulted in the left side of the lorry colliding into the woman. As a result of the collision, Sparrock fell onto the surface of the road and suffered injuries. She was picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination. When contacted, police said a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver but no trace of alcohol was detected. The driver was taken into custody and investigations are ongoing.
