– to someone younger
OUTGOING City Mayor Patricia Chase-Green said Friday that she continues to stand proud, with her head held high, due to the enormous support that she has received from her constituency despite all of the negativity that has been heaped on her lately.
She told the Guyana Chronicle before the start of Friday’s mayoral elections and swearing in ceremony, that she was happy to be handing over the ‘baton’ to someone who is younger, and whom she can provide guidance to. Ubraj Narine of the PNC/R emerged the winner of the mayoral election.
Chase-Green said at no time was she vying to be mayor for the new council; but she decided to run for her constituency because the people requested that she continues to be their representative.
“I think it is time we have a matured party, the PNC, of which I represent. We’re all talking about youths, and I think it is the best time as we transition into 2019 that someone youthful… I’m still in the council to give guidance but I will represent my constituency, which is Constituency 12, and you know this came out with the largest amount of votes,” she expressed.
She further told this publication that despite all of the negativity she received, along with the disgraceful remarks that were made about her; her constituency represented her to the highest. “So today, I am happy to hand over the baton to someone who I will be able to give guidance to, if needed.”
In offering congratulatory remarks to the new mayor, Chase-Green pledged to support Narine 100 per cent, but not before offering him some advice. “Not every smile, not every skin teeth is a laugh; not every shut-eye is sleep, and there are many wolves in sheep’s clothing. I’m telling you that from experience. You will sit around a horseshoe table with 29 people and you will gain your experience over the days.”
Apart from representing Constituency 12, Chase-Green was also appointed Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee on Friday, with Councillor Oscar Clarke returning as Chairman. The five other members of that committee are Councillors Alfred Mentore, Ivelaw Henry, Trichria Richards, Bishram Kuppen and Yvonne Ferguson.
