Maternity waiting home, new ambulance for Moruca

A MATERNITY waiting home is expected to be constructed at Santa Rosa in the Moruca Sub-Region and the authorities are expected to make several other investments to improve the delivery of health care in the North West District in 2019.
According to the budget estimates, a sum of $101M has been allocated for several projects in the region including the waiting home. The sum will also fund the construction of a health training complex at the town of Mabaruma while a health post at the village of Parakese and an incinerator at Kwebanna are also catered for under the budgetary allocation.

The Kumaka District Hospital at Moruca will also receive an ambulance and a sum of $14M has been budgeted by the finance ministry for this venture. Under the regional budgetary allocations, a sum of $151M has been set aside for the extension of the White Water Nursery School in the Mabaruma Sub-Region. In addition construction of sanitary blocks at Waramuri and Port Kaituma are also catered for under the sum allocated.

In the 2019 budget, various sums of monies have been set aside for several projects which will be undertaken at Mabaruma. Under agricultural development, a sum of $20M has been set aside in the regional budget for the construction of a food processing facility at the town. The North West District town will also see the installation of underground cables as part of the Hinterland Electrification programme of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and the construction of a police divisional headquarters at Mabaruma is catered for under the budgetary allocations for the Ministry of Public Security.

The community of Port Kaituma in the Matarkai Sub-Region will also see significant investments from government in 2019.
Sums have been allocated for the provision of medical equipment to the hospital there while construction of nurses’ quarters at the community has been catered for under the Ministry of Public Health’s budget. The water supply systems at the community will be upgraded under the Ministry of Communities budget while sums have been budgeted for the maintenance of roads in the area under the budget of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure.
