…two arrested
A POST-MORTEM performed on the remains of 22-year old Romeza Sukdeo, who was found dead at Parika on Sunday, has revealed that she died from strangulation and blunt trauma.
This was confirmed by Divisional Commander Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper who spoke with the Guyana Chronicle Wednesday afternoon. The senior officer indicated that the woman was strangled and also had a blunt trauma to the head, based on what was stated on the post-mortem report which was shared with detectives.
Two persons have since ben arrested in connection with the alleged murder and the police are said to be looking for one other person. From the age of 16, Sukdeo has been living on the streets, according to her mother who spoke with this publication on Monday.
The woman said that her daughter had indicated to relatives that should anything adverse happen to her while she is on the street, the family should take two names to the police station. It is unclear at this point if those two persons are the ones being held by the police.
Before her death, the young lady would briefly visit her mother’s home from time to time. On Sunday a security guard stumbled on the remains of the 22-year-old while heading to work. The young woman was at the time clad in a multi-coloured dress and orange skirt but was without footwear when her body was discovered.
There were no visible marks of violence at the time the remains were discovered. The investigation into the remains is ongoing and the police are expected to send a file to the director of public prosecutions for advice shortly.
