VOTING in the 67 constituencies in the 10 Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) in Region Five started slowly in the morning hours but picked up during the last two hours before the close of polls.
All polling stations in Region Five opened on time (06:00hrs) and voting began almost immediately.

“People were however just trickling in… trickling in during the morning hours but there was a sizeable buildup during the afternoon hours,” a source monitoring the process said.
Up to the last few minutes before the close of polls, candidates were seen urging qualified voters to cast their ballots.
There was one report where a female voter within the Woodlands /Bel Air NDC created some disturbance after insisting that even though her name was not on the list, she should be allowed to vote.
Her demands were turned down and she was reportedly escorted out of the polling station.
Generally, the voting was orderly and peaceful. Voters on both sides of the Abary River told the Guyana Chronicle that they were happy with the way the elections process was rolled out in Region Five. They noted that they found the process user-friendly in terms of making their choices about whom to vote for.
At the end of the day, sources close to the voting process however said that the turn out in Region Five had been relatively low overall.
