INVESTIGATIONS are still being conducted into the suspicious fire that claimed the life of Arlene Moses on Thursday when her wooden Freeman Street, East La Penitence house went up in flames, the police said Friday.

Neighbours believe that it was a stove that might have been left alight that started the fire, but some are also saying that something’s not quite right.

The 54-year-old woman, who ran a shop from her residence reportedly lived with her nephew, and from all accounts, the neighbours were unable to get into the house because it was tightly secured from the inside.

One as good as said that he found it strange that she should do so, since the doors to the house would normally be open.

According to the man, no one heard any screams or noise coming from the property, which indicated to them that Moses was trapped inside.

The elderly woman’s charred remains were found after the blaze was put out by members of the Guyana Fire Service.

They were found at the back of the house and taken to the Lyken Funeral Home.
