Joseph replaces Grimmond for  Windies T20 World Cupe defence

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, (CMC) – Teenaged left-arm seamer Qiana Joseph has been called up to replace injured off-spinner Sheneta Grimmond, ahead of West Indies’ campaign in the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup which bowls off here tomorrow.

The 17-year-old, who hails from St Lucia, made her international debut last year when she played two matches during the Windies’ ill-fated excursion in the 50-overs World Cup in England.

Joseph was also a member of both the one-day and T20 squad for South Africa’s tour of the Caribbean in September but failed to get a game.

Grimmond, meanwhile, a 20-year-old native of Guyana, was expected to make her international debut in the upcoming tournament but has been sidelined by a foot injury.

West Indies will field an experienced squad for their title defence with experienced captain Stafanie Taylor, all-rounder Deandra Dottin, Merissa Aguilleira and Hayley Matthews all featuring.

The hosts faced New Zealand in their final official ICC warm-up match last night at the Providencel Stadium before playing their first match of the T20 World Cup campaign against Bangladesh at the same venue on tomorrow’s opening night of the tournament.
