– More youths involved in positive activities

COMMANDER of `G’ Division, Khalid Pareshram 6has said that the police youth groups throughout the division are doing well and more and more children are showing interest in the various activities. Pareshram during an interview with the Pepperpot Magazine said that youths attached to the various youth groups are actively involved in various activities which is a positive move for the division’s crime-fighting strategy.

The divisional commander said that he is happy that youths are showing a keen interest in the youth group activities. “These activities are all part of our social crime prevention partnership with youths. I am happy that they are finding the interest in the various activities,” Pareshram said.
He said youths from the San Souci, Maria Johanna Youth Group on the Wakenaam Island were involved in tree planting exercises. Twenty trees were planted along the island. At Lima Sands, the youths were also involved in outdoor games, at the end of which they were treated with ice cream.
“The police within the division are trying to make these youths feel comfortable, often persons have this fear about police, we trying to working with youths because we see ourselves as partners,” Pareshram said.

The Good Hope Youth Group also conducted life skills training with youths in that area. Educational talks were done and positive advice was given. The commander said that projects are also conducted by the youths once they see their community is in need of something. The Leguan youth group recently painted two pedestrian crossings in front of the Leguan Cottage Hospital and the Success Primary School, also on the island.
Youths are also involved in sewing classes in the Onderneeming Sand Pit district while those at Affiance are involved in sporting activities. The commander said that sporting gears and other resources are provided through the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to the youth groups, in an effort to host the activities. He is, therefore, urging youths to be a part of the activities and to invest their time into positive activities.
Computer classes are also available free of charge to children at the Zara Computer training college.
