THE Region Four Department of Education (RDC) has presented some 60-odd students with back-to-school supplies at a simple ceremony at the BV Quamina Primary School on Thursday.

Nursery, primary and secondary schools students were beneficiaries of the good gesture geared to ensure they are ready for school on September 3.

The project dubbed ‘RDC DoE Back to School Bag Packs’ was sponsored by the Regional Chairman’s Office, the Department of Education and a number of private individuals and companies.

Regional Education Officer (REDO,acting) Tiffany Favourite-Harvey, who initiated the project, was happy to get the initiative off the ground.

She disclosed that a wide range of items were distributed, and noted that as a mother, she can relate to the challenges faced by parents in preparing their children for the new school year.

Among the items the students received were school bags, books, stationaries, garments, school uniforms, shoes and socks.

Both students and parents thanked the sponsors for their kind support, noting that it was timely. One parent, Sharon Nurse–a mother of three– was moved to tears by the kind gesture.

“As a mother of a 15, 11 and five-year-old… I can tell you that being able to get these things have certainly saved me the stress and hardships that I am face with,” Nurse said.

Another parent, Norma Singh, who had lost her son some months ago to drowning, was also very emotional.

She thanked the REDO for what she said was a kind-hearted gesture and understanding of what parents are enduring.
“I can’t stop thanking REDO Harvey for what is happening here, as yet again this Department of Education have truly understood the challenge and difficulties of parents like myself and have stepped up to lend a helping hand,” she said.

Among those in attendance who assisted in giving out the bag packs were the Regional Executive Officer (REO) Pauline Lucas and Regional Vice Chairman Earle Lambert.

Harvey, on her part, thanked all the sponsors and was pleased that the good initiative coincided with her birthday.

“This is the best birthday for anyone to have as I can truly give back on a day like today. I can tell you that there is nothing better I could have asked for on my birthday.”
