A NUMBER of aspiring cricketers from in and around the village of Enterprise on the East Coast of Demerara are a part of the National Sports Commission, Enterprise Busta Sports Club and Yadram Coaching Programme cricket camp, which will continue tomorrow.

The main aim at the camp is to identify young talented cricketers and at the same time provide these young cricketers with the opportunity to learn more about the game.

The camp will be held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, until September 8, under coach Latchman Yadram. The camp is open to two age groups, 10-14 and 15-19.

Wednesday’s session will commence at 14:30hrs and conclude at 17:30hrs while Saturday’s session runs from 09:00hrs to 12:00hrs.

In an invited comment yesterday, Yadram pointed out that apart from the on-field sessions, a number of classroom-style lectures are in the pipeline by a variety of expert presenters.

Yardam urged the youngsters during the first session to take full advantage of the opportunities being offered to them, adding that the camp aims to provide intensive cricket training to players who strive to discover new techniques, improve their mental, physical skills and better their overall cricketing skills.

Some 21 aspiring cricketers participated on the first day.

The Enterprise Busta Sports Club over the years has produced a number of players at the national level with Rajendra Chandrika, who was the first person from that village and the 49th from Guyana to play Test cricket. (Rajiv Bisnauth)
