WITH the support of the Ministry of Communities, the recently concluded Guyana Princess Pageant aided in boosting the confidence and improving environmental knowledge in the lives of eight participants between the ages of eight and 12.

The winner of the Creative Wear Segment, Dyana Joaquin, got the opportunity to meet Minister of Communities Ronald Bulkan at the Ministry’s Fort Street, Kingston office on Friday.

Joaquin, a student of the St Gabriel Primary School, entered the pageant on the insistence of her mother, Sheniece.

The introverted eight-year-old copped the winner’s trophy and a $25,000 gift certificate from the Ministry’s Green Generation Guyana (#3G) Project. The pageant highlighted the 3G’s recycling themes.

Joaquin, who enjoys dancing and reading, said she learnt so much about the environment during the creation of her costume. Her gown, made from plastic, newspapers, discarded DVDs and leaves outshone the other creative wear on the night of the pageant.

The little princess, who represented Pocahontas, promised to be an ambassador of the reuse, reduce and recycle crusade on her return to school.

She related that the pageant has definitely served to improve her personality and increase her levels of confidence.
