EIGHTEEN-year-old Shaveshwar Deonarine of Sparta village on the Essequibo Coast and a former student of the Anna Regina Multilateral Secondary School (ARMS) is currently a step closer to becoming a chemist. Deonarine graduated with 13 ones and 4 twos at the 2017 CSEC examinations. Apart from that, he was the top performer for Sparta Primary School when he graduated at the National Grade Six Assessment in 2012.

Deonarine, who has a passion for Science, believes that one day his knowledge can have a positive impact on the world and Guyana as a country. He is currently attached to the Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST) on an internship in an effort to pursue his studies in a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry at the University of Guyana.
He intends to study until he attains a PHd in Chemistry and apart from being a chemist, he said he would like to study forensics and ballistics. He said forensic and ballistics studies have always captured his attention and if given the opportunity he can prove to be a useful human resource to the nation.
Deonarine said that young people need to be more responsible and to value little things in life. He urged his fellow teenagers to be humble in all their future endeavours and to never forget that it’s the simple things that matters most in life. He also urged those preparing for examinations whether CSEC or NGSA or finals to focus on their studies and not to forget that revision is important. He also said that it is important for young people to honour their parents and used the opportunity to thank his parents for the support they have given throughout the years. Deonarine is currently attending the University of Guyana while on Internship. Thus far, he said he is enjoying it and is trying to cope in the different environment.
