A MAN who managed to save his daughter and grandson from drowning on Saturday at Bushy Park Beach, East Bank Essequibo, lost his life in the process.

Dead is 48-year-old Farouk Bacchus, of Lot 65 Old Road, La Grange, West Bank Demerara.
Reports indicate that during a family outing at the beach, a large wave pulled the man’s daughter and grandson into the ocean and he immediately responded by jumping into the sea and pushing them to safety.

One eyewitness said the two children were sitting on a rock when the heavy wave grabbed them and Bacchus who was nearby heard their screams and responded.

His body was later fished out of the water and was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour as police launched an investigation into the drowning.
