– AG urges residents of Bagotville
ATTORNEY General and Legal Affairs Minister Basil Williams has urged residents of Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, to tap into the oil and gas industry when he addressed them during the village’s 180th Emancipation celebrations.
With the production of oil set to commence in 2020, Williams, who is also the chairman of the People’s National Congress/Reform (PNCR), told the residents that it is important for them to equip themselves with the requisite skills and knowledge needed to function effectively and to capitalise on the opportunities that would exist in an oil and gas producing nation.
He said residents must also play their part in developing Guyana into a green state. The Government is presently drafting a Green State Development Strategy.
Williams has been attending Bagotville’s Emancipation celebrations for more than 10 years, having visited the village as a child with his grandmother. On Tuesday, the residents present, the majority being young adults, made out a case for Bagotville to be gifted with a new community centre.
The Legal Affairs Minister pledged to make representation on their behalf to Government. Among the highlight of the night were several energetic dance pieces.
