EIGHTEEN-year-old Ken Das was on Tuesday committed to stand trial at the Demerara High Court for the attempted murder of another teen following a fight.
Das,19, a horse cart operator of Broad and Lombard Streets, after a preliminary inquiry before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan was committed for wounding Anthony Bartholomew on June 9 at Lombard Street, with intent to commit murder. He was released on $300,000 bail pending his hearing at the High Court before a judge and jury.
The matter was prosecuted by Inspector Neville Jeffers while Das was unrepresented by an attorney.
According to reports, Bartholomew was standing on Lombard Street in the vicinity of the Charlestown Post Office, when he was confronted by the defendant and an argument ensued over a cellular phone.
This resulted in a fight, during which the 18-year-old is alleged to have stabbed the victim several times about his body with an ice pick.
He reportedly surrendered to police at the Ruimveldt Police Station after committing the act, while Bartholomew was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) in a serious condition.
