Accused seeks State’s assistance

Sudesh Rambhajue of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, who is on trial before Justice Brassington Reynolds on two charges of attempt to commit murder and felonious wounding in an attempt to cause grievous bodily harm, is due back in court today.
The case which was called on Monday but was put down to today, after the accused had again failed to source legal representation and Justice Reynolds gave him a few recommendations.

Rambhajue has pleaded not guilty to both counts and had sought legal assistance, stating that his family cannot afford a lawyer to represent him and had asked the judge to show him some mercy.

But Justice Reynolds informed him that the State does not assign lawyers to matters of his nature and had refused to continue the trial without the accused having any legal representation.

According to the facts as presented by State Prosecutor Seeta Bishundial, it is alleged that on September 15, 2015, Rambhajue wounded Latchman Narine Persaud of School Street, Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo.
