Woman hospitalized following stabbing incident

A ROSE Hall Town family, still mourning the death of a male member who was allegedly murdered last Saturday, is now dealing with another tragedy after a stabbing incident that has left a female member in a serious condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Maureen Sundarsingh of Lot 316 Fifth Street, Rose Hall Town, is currently a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the New Amsterdam Hospital after she was stabbed to the abdomen by another woman late Wednesday evening while at her brother’s wake.

According to reports, an argument ensued between the woman and the suspect, when the suspect armed herself with a weapon and stabbed Sundarsingh to the abdomen.

She was picked up and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where she was admitted and rushed into emergency surgery. Up to press time she remains in the ICU. Guyana Chronicle understands that the argument allegedly stemmed from the circumstances surrounding the brother’s death.

Meanwhile, Morti Sundarsingh, the mother of the victim, was in a state of shock over the incident. Her son, Wayne Sundarsingh called “Wino”, was allegedly beaten to death during a drinking session at Bulletwood Steet. In the initial stage of the investigations, police had arrested three persons. However, after advice from the DPP, two were released and the prime suspect remains in custody. He is expected to appear before the court today to answer to the charge of murder. The suspect’s mother and her daughter are currently in police custody assisting with investigation.
