– for father-son murder
A SECOND suspect has been arrested as investigations continue into the murder and robbery of a father and son in their Craig Street, Campbellville home last weekend.
This was confirmed late yesterday by Divisional Commander Leslie James, who said the second arrest was as a result of information divulged by the first suspect.
He also confirmed that both men are from the general Campbellville area, and that detectives were up to late Wednesday night working to see what other vital information they could glean.
The Guyana Chronicle on Thursday reported that the police had recovered one of the phones belonging to the Liliahs, which is believed to have been stolen during the sacking of their home.
Word is that the intruders had already had a market for the phones even before the atrocity was committed, and this is what helped the police find the suspects.
Once the phone was traced, the person at the other end was arrested, and, not wanting to take the fall alone, led the police to the other young man who was picked up on Wednesday.
Sixty-one-year-old Deonarine Liliah and his 29 year old son, Gopaul, were found dead and their bodies partly decomposed in their home on Tuesday.
The state the bodies were in when the discovery was made has caused the police to believe that the men might have died sometime during the weekend.
A post-mortem done on Wednesday has since found that they died of multiple incised wounds caused by a sharp object.
On Tuesday after the discovery of the bodies, Commander James had indicated that CCTV footage from the premises had shown a young man entering the yard by way of the western fence.
It was based on that footage that the police were able to make headway in their investigations, by first tracking the missing mobile phones of the deceased.
