IT was a dream performance for both Mark Vieira and Matt TrueLove who kicked off round two of the Seaboard Marine Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) with wins at the Frankie Boodhram International Raceway (FBIR).
Vieira, who upstaged the competition in the day’s qualification with a blistering 40.632 was silky smooth as he guided his Mazda Rx8 to his first podium win of the Caribbean season.

THE ROTARY RULES
Vieira was confident after his win yesterday, and understandably so, considering that when the race was over, he had amassed more than a quarter-mile gap on the second-placed Franklyn Boodhram.

Mark Vieira is all alone in his first CMRC Group 4 race.

Speaking exclusively to Chronicle Sport, Vieira said, “To be honest with you, we haven’t changed anything. The car just seems to like this track, these very fast corners and stuff like that. You don’t change something that is working.”
Apart from Vieira, Andrew King finished third after losing out on the closing laps to the host’s and his Renault Megane.

TRUELOVE LOVES FBIR WALLERFIELD
Meanwhile, Truelove, who makes his maiden entry to the CMRC Superstock class, recovered from a bad start to claim the top spot on the podium.
“Because I’m not used to the start line scenery, I was a bit unsure when to go and when it finally went, I dropped the clutch a bit too quickly and I lost a bit of time,” he said.

He is confident of rivalling his performances today in the second round of races.
Matthew Vieira had a last-lap clash with one of Trinidad competitors which dropped him down to eighth.

Meanwhile, mechanical troubles plagued Sharima Khan in qualifying in race one during the Group 1, while the same occurred with Haniff Mohamed in Group 2.
Rameez Mohamed suffered the same fate after trying qualification but failing just three laps into the 15-minute session.
Racing begins at 09:00hrs today.
